Close enough
is how
brands die.

Slowly, politely, one piece at a time. The blue that's nearly the blue. The logo squeezed to fit. Spine is the record that says no.

Your brand, after the handover.

Spine is the record a designer hands over with a brand. Every piece made after the handover is measured against the floors the designer set, before it leaves.

The brief ends.
The brand doesn't.

After the handover nobody is watching. The designer has moved on, the client has a folder of files and a deadline, and every new piece is a small guess. None of the guesses is wrong enough to stop. A year on, the brand is a cousin of itself. That isn't anyone's fault. It is what happens when a brand is a document instead of a record.

Spine measures every piece, records every decision, and holds the floors.

It measures

Contrast, size, clear space, the words a piece uses. Every piece is read before it leaves, and the figure is shown beside it. Nothing is assumed and nothing is rounded up.

THE WORDMARK ON ITS GROUND, 15.2:1 AGAINST 3:1 · SPINE RECORD · V20 · READ 28 OCT 2026

It records

Every decision with its reason and the person who made it. A confirmed part reopens only with "Change this" and a reason, so the record never changes quietly.

6 OF 6 FLOORS HELD ON SPINE'S HEADER · SPINE RECORD · V20 · READ 28 OCT 2026

It holds

Floors never yield. A piece that breaks one is refused with the floor named, and a person decides what happens next. That is the whole trick: a machine that measures and a person who decides.

Two sides of one brand

Hand over once.
Stay the author.

If you build brands: bring the brand you made. Set the floors: the smallest type, the clear space, the colours that may touch. Decide what your client can change. Then hand over, and keep the relationship instead of ending it.

Make what you need.
Keep it yours.

If you live with one: your brand book as a page, not a PDF. Templates that only let you make things that look like you. Lines written in your voice with the reason beside each one. When it needs the studio, ask them from the same place.

Hand over.

Spine takes a brand in three steps: bring it, set its floors, hand it over.

  1. 1 / 3

    Bring the brand

Marks, type, colours, voice, pictures. The record reads them and tells you what it found and what it couldn't. Not a form.

product screen · intake · parts arriving with ticks
  2. 2 / 3

    Set the floors

Minimum sizes, clear space, contrast, the words the brand never says. You confirm each one. The machine proposes the figure; you decide it.

product screen · handover · a floor being confirmed
  3. 3 / 3

    Hand over

Your client gets the book, the templates and the drafter. Every piece they make is measured against the floors before it leaves. You see what held and what was refused.

Five questions

Can I cancel?

Any month. Your clients keep their books and their made pieces, and the record stays readable for a year after.

PLANS · LANDING BOARD · 29 OCT 2026

Who owns the brand?

The client, always. The designer owns their templates and tools. Spine owns nothing on your record and never trains on it.

Where does my work live?

Files in EU storage, records in a UK database, served through Cloudflare. Nothing leaves the fence without a signature.

What counts as an image or a line?

Anything the machine makes for you: a picture, a draft, a traced mark. Reading, measuring and holding floors cost nothing and never will.

What is the first client on us?

One brand, enough for about ten images, no card. Bring it, set its floors, hand it over, and see what holds.
